Robins Rewind: Cardiff City 0-1 Bristol City

This weekend's postponed match would have seen Lee Johnson's men host Cardiff City in the latest widely anticipated Severnside derby, so we look back at some recent memorable fixtures against the Bluebirds.

And there's no better way to end the build up than with a reminder of how we fared the last time City and Cardiff clashed.

It was a 1-0 win at the Cardiff City Stadium in November of the current Sky Bet Championship season.

Josh Brownhill's super dipping strike was the difference that day as the Robins earned a first win on Cardiff soil for 17 years.

Josh Brownhill’s stunning strike earned City their first win on Cardiff territory for 17 years.

The on-field captain blasted in a right-footed shot from distance to take the three points back to Bristol.

The Bluebirds would it the woodwork three times at a chilly Cardiff City Stadium but ultimately they had little response to Brownhill’s second-half moment of brilliance.

The win lifted City up to sixth in the Sky Bet Championship table.

What they said...

Lee Johnson:

“It’s a great day and the boys are buzzing. It gives them a four-day rest now, though obviously the internationals go away, but they can all feel good about themselves for a warrior-like performance.

“Was it a classic in terms of slick, champagne football? Absolutely not, but we have come away to a difficult place and got the result and, as you can hear, the boys are very happy with that.

“I thought we got in some great areas in the first half and weren’t dynamic or assured enough to pick somebody out or the cut back to see it through.

“Browny’s was the one moment of real quality. It was an unbelievable strike - what more can you say about it!”
