Preview: Reading (H)

City return to Ashton Gate this weekend for the visit of José Gomes' Reading in the Sky Bet Championship.

The match comes off the back of consecutive away draws to Preston North End and Brentford, which have seen City occupy seventh in the early league standings and remain unbeaten since the opening day of the campaign.

As for the Royals, it's been a difficult first couple of months with just two wins in the Championship. They were well beaten 4-1 to Fulham in midweek and with ten men too after John Swift's red card. Will they bring a reaction to BS3, after last season's 1-1 draw here last time?

MEMORABLE FIXTURE

Bristol City 2-0 Reading
Tuesday, December 26th 2017
Sky Bet Championship
Scorer: Paterson 68, Kelly 90+3
Att: 23,116

While this fixture was only two seasons ago, it was a poignant one as the result marked City’s first home win against the Royals for seven years.

The festive fixture, which took place just six days after Lee Johnson's side had beaten Manchester United in the Carabao Cup, was decided by City's super subs with Jamie Paterson firing the home side ahead on his Boxing Day cameo, before Lloyd Kelly sealed the win in the final embers of the game.

Paterson’s unstoppable effort gave the home side the lead. Bobby Reid held up play before releasing the onrushing midfielder who flashed a first-time shot into the top corner.

The goal gave what this fixture needed as the supporters raised the decibels, with Kelly wrapping up the points late on.

On-loan striker Cauley Woodrow saw a shot parried by keeper Vito Mannone but the ball rebounded to the left-back and the youngster made no mistake in finding the far corner.

Bristol City: Fielding, Flint, Baker (Paterson, Kelly), Wright, Magnusson, Bryan, Smith, Pack, Brownhill, Taylor (Woodrow), Reid. Subs not used: Steele, Leko, Eliasson, Vyner.
