Oxtoby ready for final push

Tanya Oxtoby’s side prepare to face Reading Women on Sunday and the Bristol City Women manager believes her side can take great confidence into the game after a good performance against Everton.

There are just three games left in the 2019/20 FA Women’s Super League season and Bristol City Women currently sit fifth on twenty-five points with this weekend’s visitors, Reading two places and seven points behind the reds in seventh.

Oxtoby was pleased the nature of her side’s performance last weekend and urged them to replicate it when Reading visit the SGS College Stoke Gifford Stadium on Sunday.

Adapting and Improvising

“Last week’s performance was pleasing for a number of reasons, we managed to keep a clean sheet and grind out a result but also how the girls adapted to a new system and found new ways to break down the opposition.

“We changed shape two or three times throughout the game and all the players adapted seamlessly and that shows that we’re growing as a group, understanding more about each other and the way we want to play week after week - it’s really great to see.”

Challenge ahead

“We’re coming into a tough game against Reading with some confidence after our last performance against Everton, but we know that Reading will pose us a challenge as they’re one of the few teams that we haven’t taken points from this season.

“They’re a physical side with very experienced players, who know how to adapt to different teams and that makes them a very hard team to beat.”

The run in

“The group have performed exceptionally well throughout the season to get us in this position and heading into the final three games of the season we are well within reach of the internal targets we have set and that is really pleasing for me.”

Bristol City Women take on Reading Women on Sunday, March 31st at the SGS College Stoke Gifford Stadium (3pm).
