McAllister praises squad's strength in depth

City Assistant Head Coach Jamie McAllister has hailed the "great job" of the City squad, as the competition in the Sky Bet Championship heats up.

City host Reading in their latest outing on Saturday, off the back of consecutive away points against Preston North End and Brentford, respectively.

There are no new injury concerns for the Robins heading into their next league fixture but McAllister was quick to praise those have been called upon while others have been unavailable.

"The strength in depth we have is great," he told Robins TV.

"We’ve had some unfortunate injuries to key players but the lads that have come in have done an excellent job. Taylor (Moore) has been outstanding, Antoine (Semenyo) has come on and got minutes so it gives people an opportunity. Tommy Rowe is another example with Jay Dasilva out. He may not have played as much as he has but he’s been excellent. The lads have done a great job and that shows where we are in the league with our points tally."

City sit seventh in the Championship, unbeaten since the opening game of the campaign. Meanwhile, Reading has struggled with just two wins this season.

McAllister said: "The league is getting tighter every year, the gap between the teams is closing. It’s very tight between the top 12.

"There’s no easy game and that includes Reading tomorrow. They’re maybe struggling a bit at the moment, it will be a tough game, they’ve got some real quality especially on the counter. We have to nullify that, make sure we do our jobs tomorrow.

'Ashton Gate is a great place to play and we’re looking forward to it and hopefully we can build on what would be a great week if we can get the three points on Saturday against Reading, so we’re looking forward to the game."
