Lee Johnson reflected on securing a point at Deepdale that saw six goals in a rain-drenched end-to-end contest.
Taylor Moore scored his first goal for the club to open the scoring, before Andreas Weimann headed home to gift City a 2-0 lead. Two Preston penalties, one either side of the break, drew the scores level and Patrick Bauer cancelled out Nathan Baker’s close-range effort.
Here’s what the City Head Coach told Robins TV after the final whistle.
“We had more shots on target, more shots on goal (than Preston). We looked very good on the break but just didn’t quite find that final through ball every now and again. Preston are a really good side - at times we coped with them and at times we didn’t. The boys have put everything into it and I can’t ask any more for effort and attitude. It’s a young side - I had to make it more experienced at the end and it stood us in good stead to get the point.”
“I thought it was 50-50 whether it was a penalty (Daniel Johnson fouled), 50-50 whether Famara’s challenge is a goal and 100 per cent a foul on Baker for the third goal. It’s not the first time it’s happened to us, so I’m just pleased that we’ve come out of it with something to show for our bravery. The timing of the penalty just before half-time is not ideal but we move on with a point in our back pocket.”
“We haven’t scored as many set-pieces as we would have liked this season, so it was good ball delivery, better than we have had in recent games and two very good finishes.”
“Looking at results today it’s quite tight so it’s a case of building on the performance, building on the individuals and working on the cohesion. Games like this are going to be magnificent for the likes of Han-Noah Massengo whose experienced a true English, Northern game of football full of incident, full of box entries where you can’t lose concentration for a minute.”
