If there is one man who knows a thing or two about derbies in South Wales, it is Ashley Williams.
He’s featured against Cardiff City in the derby nine times as a Swansea City player and now prepares for a return to the Cardiff City Stadium for his first Severnside derby as a Robin.
The defender, who earlier this week signed a contract extension at City, caught up with the club website to share his thoughts ahead of Sunday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture (Sunday, November 10th, 12pm KO).
“It’s another big game as they all are. My first two games for City were against ex-teams (Stoke City and Swansea) and now I have Cardiff so that’s another big one for me.
“It’s in a stadium I know very well having played there for Wales and I know it’s going to be an enjoyable game but a tough one.
“Cardiff had a good win last weekend (4-2 versus Birmingham City) and we need to bounce back from our draw against Barnsley. It will be difficult, but we go there full of confidence and try to win again.
“I’ve played against Cardiff in the South Wales derby a few times which is always really intense. I won and lost some but they were always very intense, a game you always look forward to and don’t want to lose.
“Having played there for clubs and with Wales, I know the Cardiff City Stadium is a really good stadium. I have shared so many experiences there playing for Wales and the crowd make a lot of noise, especially in the South Wales derbies!
“It’s a very hostile atmosphere and I’m sure it will be again on Sunday but those are the games you want to play in.”
Supporters are reminded that the Robins will be backed by a sold out away end in South Wales with the full allocation snapped up by season card holders.
Fans without a ticket are urged to not travel to the Cardiff City Stadium as they will not gain entry however, the game will be shown live inside the Ashton Gate Sports Bar. Click here for full details.
And supporters with a ticket for the match can enjoy exclusive train fare discount with our official travel partner, TrainAI.
