I Couldn’t Have Asked For A Better Start – Willie Kirk

Bristol City Women head coach Willie Kirk was left purring at his side’s display against Oxford United in WSL2.

Two first-half braces from Chelsea loanee Millie Farrow and debutant Claire Emslie helped the Vixens to a 4-1 win over the U’s which moved them to second in the table.

The match was City’s first in just over a month and Kirk was thrilled by the professionalism his squad showed on their return to action.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better start to the second half of the season,” he said.

“The team put everything we had practised in training into the game, which is exactly what you ask for as a manager.

“I was particularly pleased with the energy from training field being transferred into the game, especially in first 45 minutes.

“The performance was excellent especially in the first half and we remained very professional and controlled the game in the second-half.”

Emslie played 68 minutes in her first appearance for the club alongside fellow new recruit Charlie Estcourt.

The duo are set to be included in City’s squad for the trip to Aston Villa this evening, but Kirk says he could freshen up his starting line-up.

“I was really pleased for Claire and Charlie to get their first game for the club,” he said.

“Claire earned herself player of the match after scoring two goals.

“It is always nice to see players get their first goals for the club so early on and even though I have known her for a long time and knew how much talent she has, it was great for others to see how good she is.”

He added: “We knew we would have a short turn around before our next game and the team may have been guilty of taking their foot off the gas in the second-half on Saturday.

“We will probably make a few changes tonight to give others players some game time. However Aston Villa are fifth in the league and are still a strong side.

“We know what we need to do to not only gain promotion but win the league.”
