‘Early goal gave them confidence’ – Weimann

Andreas Weimann explained how conceding early played into Blackburn’s hands.

Rovers won 2-0 at Ashton Gate on Saturday afternoon, and they were helped on their way after scoring inside the second minute through Bradley Johnson.

While City had their moments, half chances went astray, and Rovers eventually doubled their lead through Adam Armstrong.

“It’s very frustrating,” Weimann said at full-time. “We gave the goal away…then we had to take the game to them and they were happy just to sit in.

“I thought in the first 30 minutes we actually played well, we couldn’t take our chances and then we gave them another goal again. We lost the tackle in the middle of the pitch and in this game, that’s all Blackburn wanted; to get the goal and sit in so it was very frustrating.”

He added: “As I say if you go 1-0 up early your confidence goes up and they were happy with their game plan, sitting in and keeping the ball.”

City are not back in action until Sunday when they travel to take on Sheffield Wednesday.

And Weimann says that time will allow full focus on bouncing back.

He said: “We’ve got eight days until the next game. We will come back in, look at what we did wrong today, then have a good week’s training and make sure we bounce back.”
