Cundy ready for the step up

New signing Robbie Cundy can’t wait to get going as he starts the next chapter in his football career with City.

Centre-back Cundy has put pen to paper on a two-year contract, with the option of a third year, completing his move to BS3 from Bath City.

He arrives after a stellar season at Twerton Park, where he was voted the 2018/19 Supporters’ Player of the Year, Players’ Player and Manager’s Player of the Year.

The 21-year-old will now join the Robins’ Under-23s setup and has his sights set on further progression.

“This move means a lot,” Cundy said. “I’m delighted to have signed and I can’t wait to get started, I’m really looking forward to it.

“It’s a big step of course but I’m ready to go, to get stuck in and do my best. Hopefully that will raise a few eyebrows.”

He links up with James Morton and Freddie Hinds from his 2018/19 season with the Romans, and Head Physiotherapist Andrew Proctor and Callum O’Dowda from his Oxford United playing days.

“I’m sure they will help me settle in,” he added. “I’ll come in at Under-23s level first and maybe go on loan somewhere, get some games at a high level and get more experience from that.

“Hopefully if I do well it will lead on to better things here but we will have to wait and see.”

Cundy’s career began in Aston Villa’s youth setup before he moved to join Oxford United’s Academy. He spent loan spells at Daventry Town, Chesham United, Gloucester City, Oxford City and Southport.

He joined Gloucester City permanently in the summer of 2017, moving to Bath City a year later.
