City Women Knocked Out Of Continental Cup

Bristol City Women suffered a 2-0 defeat to Sheffield FC in the Continental Tyres Cup on Saturday.

Jodie Michalska opened the scoring for the hosts just before the hour, and Chelsea Flanagan ensured victory nine minutes from time to send the Yorkshire club into the quarter-finals.

Sheffield dominated proceedings in the first half and created the better opportunities.

Emma Johnson raced through one-on-one only to be denied by the legs of keeper Hannah Reid before Michalska curled narrowly wide.

On-loan City striker Millie Farrow took aim from range just shy of half-time but shot faded wide, and the Chelsea star thought she had grabbed the first of the contest only to see her effort disallowed.

The breakthrough eventually came and it was Sheffield that took a deserved lead. Michalska received the ball from Johnson and smashed it past Reid with aplomb in the 58th minute.

Vixens goalkeeper Reid was in fine form and produced a sting of excellent saves, but was unable to keep out the killer second.

Johnson was again the provider, as her corner expertly found the head of Flanagan who headed home to confirm Sheffield’s progression.
