Bakinson pens new deal

Tyreeq Bakinson has signed a new three-year contract at Ashton Gate, with the option of a further 12 months.

The 20-year-old has spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan at League Two play-off finalists Newport County, making 41 appearances in all competitions,

In that time, the former Luton Town Academy product has provided six assists and one goal - a crucial match winner away at Oldham Athletic - which was voted September’s goal of the month by their supporters as well as helping Newport reach the Emirates FA Cup Fifth Round against Manchester City.

Having arrived in South Wales, the central midfielder quickly became a highly-regarded figure at Rodney Parade and he went on to receive the club’s 2018/19 Young Player of the Year award.

City Chief Executive Officer Mark Ashton said: “Tyreeq has had a very successful season for Newport County and is testament to our loans system. We are delighted to have offered him a new contract and are looking forward to him progressing along the pathway to the City first team.”

Bakinson signed for City’s development group on transfer deadline day in August 2017 and made his debut in last season’s Carabao Cup victory over Crystal Palace.
